In this practice, all postures are seated and are held for 3-5 minutes each. We encourage our muscles to relax so that we begin to influence the ‘yin’ connective tissues in the body i.e. ligaments and fascia, as opposed to working our muscles in an active ‘yang’ practice. By gently stressing these tissues, we help to keep them pliable and healthy whilst creating space and freedom in our joints.
Suitable for all ages and abilities, Yin Yoga can be challenging yet it is deeply relaxing and meditative. It is an excellent compliment to any other activity that works the muscles, whether that be running, cycling, playing a sport or a practicing a more active style of yoga.
